October 24, 2024 - Moffett Federal Airfield, CA - OceanSky Cruises Announces, "We’re thrilled to share a major milestone in the airship industry, and in the journey towards the North Pole expedition with OceanSky Cruises. LTA Research, one of the leading airship manufacturers based in the United States, has achieved its first untethered flight with the Pathfinder 1 airship, a groundbreaking step in sustainable air travel. Conducted last October the 25th, this test flight showcased Pathfinder 1’s ability to lift off and navigate independently, reaffirming its readiness for further testing."

Pathfinder 1 is a state-of-the-art airship using helium as lifting gas and electric engines for propulsion, took flight at Moffett Field, California. This achievement highlights the strides in lighter-than-air technology, setting the stage for more extensive testing to ensure a safe, comfortable, and environmentally sustainable airship. The Pathfinder 1 is a 124m/407 feet, 30,000 m3 prototype that will set the basis for the planned larger Pathfinder 3 model, under development at the Akron airdock in Ohio. This 183m/600 feet, 100,000 m3 giant is the intended airship for future commercial applications and may offer unprecedented space on board, redefining the comfort standards in air travel.

From the highly decorative to the stark brutalist design, airships of 100 years ago were varied in appearance but known for their lavish experiences. OceanSky Cruises is taking this legacy into a new era to bring to you high luxury while keeping our carbon footprint low and highlighting the best of low-touristed destinations.
